WST trip: France, Clermont-Ferrand, Day II

The morning was spent drawing with students and teachers. On the top is the Clermont-Ferrand cathedral. Here I found the first Urban Sketcher Marco Pallini Palmar. We share our draw of the cathedral and of course I ask about having me in his home town and have some time sketching. You can imagine the answer… A completely yes! Thats why I love meet sketchers they are always in the same mood, we feel like connected with them just from the beginning.

In the afternoon we finally went to see the exposition “Carnet de Voyage”. My eyes were on fire with so many new people and great sketches. Then I met Lapin and Miguel Herranz. I must confess that I’m a big fan of Miguel’s sketches. Lapin was the portrait guy! Every time I went to his spot was crowded with people asking him for a draw. I did spend some time with them talking and in the middle who’s appeared from nothing on my right side?
Gérard Michel!! …My reaction was to hug him like I know him for ages! Actually I know his draws for along time but it was my first time with him. We had a little talk, laughed and shared some sketches. It’s impossible to feel indifferent about his humility and love sharing his sketches. He looks like a grandfather we all wanted to have and pass all day listening stories and see him sketching. Then I went to scandinavia area and there was Nina, Ea EjersboMattias Adolfsson and Olivier Kugler. Was nice to meet them for real and talk about WST project. Thanks guys we will soon see each other 🙂

The day has finished on a cafe Pascal with some Urban Sketchers: LapinJoaquinMiguel Herranz, NinaGérard answering the students questions of Mário Linhares, Sara e Pedro, about sketchbooks. Just take a look at their websites and you will find more about this.

WST trip: France, Clermont-Ferrand, Day I

On Tursday I met Mário Linhares, Sara, Pedro and their students at Lisbon airport, and while waiting for the plane we were sketching. Here is mine with some of the students and people passing by.

Later, we tooked our flight to Lyon. Was a nice trip were everyone was enjoying the opportunity to sketch and share the results after that. After we arrived, we went to the center of Lyon by BUS for a couple of hours. This was my sketch.

Then we got in Clermont-Ferrant at night. It was time to continue my journey and meet with my friend Natacha, that was waiting for me and go by car to her home. The rest of day was spend resting at home, dining and having a really nice time with Natacha and her friend talking in french most of the time. Since I just can speck a few words I was just watching trying to understand… anyway was great to get some knowledge: “Le savoir ne pas occuper l’espace”.

Next stop, Clermont-Ferrand!

Must confess that this trip to France, Clermont-Ferrand to see “Carnet de Voyage” wasn’t in my plans but talking with Omar I quickly understand that I couldn’t miss it. This is a big event brings one hundred sketchbook travel artists every year presenting their illustrations, texts and adventure films with a nice possibility to meet them. I’m Really excited with this trip and see new things in the sketch world. I’ll be there from 17th to 21th.
Lets travel, learn and sketch!

WST trip: Porto II

Here is some sketches from my last mini-trip to Porto. Since was there meeting my new partnership Monte Campo to WST project, I took the chance to do some draws.

Aliados Avenue

Clérigos Tower

Near the Porto castle

Porto is a nice city to visit and draw. Friendly people, nice weather, good wine and food, nice architecture, what you want more?

…I will post more sketches about this trip this week, stay toned!

WST trip: Porto

So, tomorrow is time for one more small WST Trip. I’m going to Porto, north of Portugal by train again. I tried to contact some Urban Sketchers over there but nothing yet… the worst thing that can happen at this point, it is days later receive a reply saying they only read the mail right now… thats the “problem” i’m getting used to and thats why i’m making contacts with some time before I start WST, there will be always a gap.

The city of Porto is known as the City Invicta. It is the city that gave Portugal’s name – very early (c. 200 BC), when designated for Portus Cale, coming later to become the capital of Portucalense. It is also a city worldwide known for their wine, their bridges and ancient and contemporary architecture, their historical center, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, and their football club, the FC Porto.

I’m going there to have a meeting about WST but will talk about that later on. And of course see a friend and have some time sketching! Stay toned and follow my four day mini-trip!

Here are two sketches from my dear Thailand friends, Asnee and Pramote from last summer in Porto. All the best for them, and all thai people with the heavy floods that have taken place there.

Croatia Trip

Bosnia 01

This one was made recently in my trip to Croatia. I woke up at 6am when everybody was sleeping and spend around 15 minutes in this sketch with the company of the rising sun.

Este desenho foi feito recentemente na minha mais recente viajem à Croácia. levantei-me por volta das 6 da manhã e enquanto os meus companheiros de viajem dormiam fiz este desenho durante 15 minutos, com a boa companhia do nascer do sol.
